Consist launches series of events on insights into data analysis

Splunked in the museum

After Consist hackathons on the basis of the Splunk big data platform have already proven popular with students, the Kiel IT service provider now also wants to offer professionals a format to test the opportunities offered by data for themselves. The kick-off event took place at the International Maritime Museum Hamburg (IMMH) on January 24, 2019.

Kiel - business processes are becoming more complex - data is already there. It arises from increasingly multi-layered sources, and demands our attention day and night. Servers, storage, applications, databases, security, sensors, telephony and GPS are only some examples - all of these IT components constantly generate data.

It is becoming more and more difficult to master all of this using traditional approaches. Conventional monitoring and analysis systems often only consider certain extracts at the levels of business, applications or infrastructure. However, it is only at the level of the machine data and log files that the entire spectrum unfolds. Splunk technology makes it possible to collect, organize and analyze this - up to magnitude of Petabytes daily.  So it is no wonder that there is significant interest in this market-leading technology.

Accordingly, there was an enthusiastic response on Deck 1 of the IMMH, where over 50 IT professionals gathered to learn more about the Splunk data engine. Through use cases of well-known companies, there were demonstrations of how sensor data can be used to predict maintenance cycles, or how process data can be used for automated monitoring of production process. The afternoon followed with a hands-on session, in which the participants themselves could test different application scenarios. Thanks to help available on site, no prior Splunk experience was necessary.

A small taste of what else Splunk can offer was provided by the demonstration of mobile data scanning. This will be covered in more detail in the in-depth sessions which will follow during the course of the year, in addition to the basic workshops.
