Consist makes a donation to the Tafel Kiel
Consist Software Solutions is supporting the Tafel Kiel food bank with a €4,000 donation. Once a year, Consist donates money to support a good cause in the region.
Kiel – The Kiel-based IT company Consist Software Solutions donated €4,000 to the Tafel Kiel food bank in September 2021. The Tafel Kiel collects excess food products and gives them to those in need. Its work is solely financed by donations.
"We are pleased to be able to support the Tafel Kiel’s important activities with our company donation. We make regular donations to a worthy cause in the region. The staff at Consist decide which organization should get the money each time from a preliminary selection," explained Consist's Managing Director Jörg Hansen. In previous years, Consist’s company donations have gone to the Kieler Förde hospice (2020), the Mach Mittag campaign (2019) and the Blauer Elefant children’s center (2018).
The Tafel Kiel already knows what it wants to do with the donation from Consist: "We are planning to expand our food bank center, which requires construction measures. The negotiations for this are almost complete. Consist's donation would help enormously with this project," said Frank Hildebrandt, Chairperson of the Tafel Kiel e. V. association. Expanding the food bank center in Kiel Gaarden would increase the storage space for the food products and spread out the sorting processes – which is especially important under coronavirus conditions.
About the Tafel Kiel food bank
Kiel’s citizens founded the Tafel Kiel as a charitable association in January 1995. The organization collects food products – around 2.5 – 3 tons per working day – and other items of everyday use which can no longer be sold in the shops but which can still be used. They are sorted at the food bank center and handed out to people on a low income at eight distribution sites.
Those in need can receive food from the Tafel Kiel once a week for a donation of €1 (€2 for big families of more than 5 people). The charitable association currently supplies around 1,400 households. Roughly 200 volunteers work for the Tafel Kiel.
"As food banks work independently from state welfare, we do not see ourselves as a supplier which can cover our customers’ entire needs, but we simply provide some support and balance out the food surpluses on the one hand and people’s needs on the other," explained Frank Hildebrandt.
The organization is solely financed by donations. The Tafel Kiel’s activities would not be possible without these donations. The main costs include running the car pool, rents and power consumption for refrigeration units.
